“Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”

This morning’s sunrise was mesmerizing ….. So sparkly, as the beams danced across the small ripples on the calm ocean below ….
As March nears it’s end, the sun quickly begins moving towards it earliest rising time in mid-May at 5:43AM. I set my alarm 15 minutes earlier today, to 6:00, and was surprised to find my boyfriend up as well. Talking with the cat, he proceeded to sit right inside the door, tuned into Facebook, clearing his throat and periodically banging the mosquito racket.
What are the secrets to finding the silence within, when the world around us is abuzz ?
Sri Ravi Shankar writes:
“It is obviously ideal to meditate in a quiet place, for instance early morning when everyone is asleep, but our perfect quiet world might not always exist …
It is very important to become aware of the noise in your surroundings. Once you are aware, gradually take your attention towards the noisy environment and observe each sound. This brings your mind to the present moment and makes it easier to accept the noise. Acceptance can only happen in the present moment! Once you accept, your mind settles down and there comes a point when you transcend this noise, and it stops bothering you.
Once again, the key is accepting. Normally when our mind is full of endless thoughts, we either try to resist them or we get into a constant chatter with ourselves and we start judging them as good and bad thoughts. Resisting thoughts does not help because they keep coming back. What you resist, persists!
But when we accept the noises and thoughts as they come, we transcend to the witness consciousness. This brings the mind to the present moment and helps it to settle down.
So, the secret in a single line is become Aware, Observe and Accept.
Then you transcend and emerge with an unshakeable smile.”
It is in gratitude that I begin my day for my partner, allowing me the gift of acceptance and transcendence, being completely totally mesmerized by the dance of life ….
