“Money, fame, recognition, and happiness can be had by you if you are ready and determined to have these blessings.”
~ Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich
In the introduction to his highly acclaimed book on the philosophy of personal achievement, Hill is very clear that the secret to success cannot be given away and it cannot be purchased for money.
“Unless you are intentionally searching for the secret, you cannot have it at any price. This is because the secret comes in two parts. And in order for you to get it, one of these parts must already be in your possession.”
“Achievement, and all earned riches, have their beginnings in an idea.”
As for the second half of the secret, Hill states that it is implied, and must be discovered and interpreted by ourselves. So even I can’t do this work for YOU. And if we are ready, the secret to success will jump off the pages at us.
As I contemplate Hill’s intro, I have to question: What makes us “intentionally search” for ways to succeed …?
For me, it’s because I have some burning idea in my head that I want to see come to life. It’s my idea, and no one else’s. As Hill states, it can’t be bought. The idea just occurred to me, as ideas just occur to you. They “pop” into our heads. Fame & fortune are not the real reasons I’ve picked up Hill’s book. I desire a better understanding of why I’ve succeeded in many of my efforts, and how to put that achievement to use in assisting others.
