“Like the sky opens after a rainy day we must open to ourselves…. Learn to love yourself for who you are and open so the world can see you shine.”
~ James Poland
Good morning friends. I loved seeing this beautiful red sky, before the sun blazed up into our clear blue skies. Looks like it’s going to be a beautiful weekend !!
It’s no doubt that one of the first messages I saw this morning on Facebook was from my friend Laurel over at Illuminating Souls: “Sometimes we pick up energy & emotions that are not ours. If you’re feeling overwhelmed & don’t know why, ask the angels to clear away anything that does not belong to you. Sit for a few moments and imagine the angels gently clearing your energy field. You will feel so much better.”
So I must not be the only one who was feeling a bit melancholy !! As a believer in energy clearing, while I didn’t specifically address my angels – and maybe I should start figuring out how to do that – I was busy this morning watching the high surf below, and asked the waves to carry this bit of sadness with the world away as they washed out, and to fill me love and joy instead as they washed in.
I think it’s working 🙂
What’s interesting is that I felt as though I should apologize to you for not sharing a bit more positive message yesterday. But why? Benjamine Disraeli wrote:
Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth.
Yesterday, I received a nice note from a friend. She decided to attend an empowerment circle of women. And she was thrilled at how wonderful it felt to go, and be herself. To be accepted and appreciated for being just that. And how freeing it was to no longer be in hiding. Living a life behind a mask, pretending to be someone she was not.
How about you? Do you feel free to be yourself? All the time, or only under certain circumstances?
As I googled for a quote that would express my thoughts on this subject, I came across a wonderful collection of quotes on “Being Yourself” over at Quote Garden.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Thank you for allowing me to be myself. Sharing the truth of my experience.
And may you work at being yourself too … To quote e.e. Cummings:
“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”
——— Be Yourself:
To be nobody but yourself in a world – which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else – means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.
~e.e. Cummings, 1955
I am much better employed from every point of view, when I live solely for my own satisfaction, than when I begin to worry about the world. The world frightens me, and a frightened man is no good for anything.
~George Gissing
All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself.
~Ralph Ellison, “Battle Royal”
He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away.
~Raymond Hull
Learn to… be what you are, and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not.
~Henri Frederic Amiel
We are so accustomed to disguise ourselves to others that in the end we become disguised to ourselves.
~François Duc de La Rochefoucauld
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
~Steve Jobs
Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life; define yourself.
~Harvey Fierstein
There is just one life for each of us: our own.
~Euripides
When you dance to your own rhythm, Life taps its toes to your beat.
