“The way to become One with the universe is to trust IT, as another, as you would another, and say ‘Let’s see what you’re going to do!'”
~ Alan Watts

As I sat as one with the universe this beautiful bright morning, I was reflecting on a post over on Alan Watts Wisdom, as well as a conversation I had with a friend and client regarding teaching empowerment – or more specifically, creating awareness around disempowerment, where it flows from and how to alter that attitude and orientation.

As I sat in 2009, very unhappy, and feeling very stuck in my present situation (of my own creating I might add), what finally struck me was that if I created it, I can also uncreate it. So there’s the first step …

To quote Denis Waitley: “A sign of wisdom and maturity is when you come to terms with the realization that your decisions cause your rewards and consequences. You are responsible for your life, and your ultimate success depends on the choices you make.”

One of the first books I read was “Life on Purpose” by Dr. Brad Swift. If I had already fulfilled the purpose of creating a computer business, and it was time to move on, I had no idea what that next venture looked like. As I started reading the book, I had to admit that I’d never considered having “a purpose” and didn’t really understand Dr. Swift’s definition. I had to contemplate for quite a few days before an understanding took shape. I was a human doing, not a human being. Everything that would have defined “I Am” related to the various roles I held in the world. Tough spot to be in if one is unhappy. If I am my role then, yes, I’m just plain stuck !!

I took the short quiz to determine where I sat on the “Fulfilling Life’s Purpose” scale. I was happy to see that I wasn’t at the bottom, but at a mid-level of competency. Next on the scale came flourishing, then mastery. To flourish, Dr. Swift describes that one will begin to cherish one’s life. It will feel like a sanctuary for your soul, as well as those around you. Your life will be like a tranquil harbor where others can come to rest and receive support. At that same time, you know your true self well enough to speak the truth in a way that contributes to others. Getting to a stage of mastery involves trusting your inner guidance, and the Universe. Knowing that one never fully is a master of anything, you become comfortable with this paradox. The time has come to give away all that you have learned, knowing that you can never out-give the Universe. For the more you give, the more the Universe provides.

As I let go of my computer business, everyone asked me what I was going to “do”. And I can assure you I received a lot of odd looks when I said I was going to wait for my destiny to appear. When I visited my cousins in May, I think my cousin almost fell over laughing … “So you are providing life and business coaching, yet you don’t have any particular direction yourself” … Ha ha …

You do see the paradox though don’t you. I hope you’ll give Alan Watts short post a full read and/or listen. As one meditates, one becomes fully aware that the vast majority of our thoughts aren’t of our own creation. The ego chatters away in the background, and unless I’m working to direct the mind to a task or solve a problem, it just bubbles. And somewhere in that bubbling is the voice of the Universe. But you must sit in silence for your inner knower to pick up the guidance.

If you feel stuck, know that you can escape it. But it will take a huge amount of courage to just say … “Universe, I trust you. I am at your service. Use me as you see fit.”

… And so I write to you today ❤
