“Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything – anger, anxiety, or possessions – we cannot be free.”
~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Happy Independence Day everyone! It’s a beautiful morning here in the VI, with a wonderful breeze, and bright blue skies, and just enough spots of clouds to help keep our tourist’s sunburns under control. I just received a text invite from a friend, and we’ll head up to her house after I finish this post for mimosas and brunch. Then hopefully we’ll be able to go and pick up Gabby cat from the vets.
Got villa guests checked in yesterday, and as I often do, I listened to a few podcasts while I prepping the house for arrival.
This week’s talk over at Zencast.org by Andrea Fella was entitled “Why Mindfulness?”
Let me ask, do you feel a prisoner to your mind?
Do you find yourself constantly having ruminations about the past and projections about the future? While we may understand that all we have is “the now”, “this moment”, how much of your time is spent bringing the past into now, or dreaming of the future in the now?
Andrea gives practical examples of the power of mindfulness in everyday life. She expresses how her mind used to operate, the heaviness and emotional pain of it all, and how her practiced mind feels today. The beautiful thing about mind is that it can be taught to move towards happiness and stillness instead of pain.
If you have a free hour over the weekend, and you know what I mean about a mind that snared in the trap of past events or worried about the future … I hope you’ll give her podcast a listen. Mindfulness has changed my life, and Andrea has been one of my best teachers ….
To freedom ….
